2010 Council on Leadership

LeaderPoint is assembling a 20-member Council on Leadership with the purpose of measuring the effects of systematic management development on business results. This Council will assist in a year-long research project tracking the measurable effects of management development.

Why a Council on Leadership?

We believe that management makes a difference. Effective management provides precise focus on exactly what work must be done, it establishes visionary direction, and it gains tremendous commitment from those who must contribute.

The hypothesis: We propose that companies actively committed to developing the capabilities of managers see measurable improvements in business results that far exceed the investment.

That’s why we are assembling a panel of managers who exemplify this commitment. They can help measure the actual impact of systematic management development.

What Will the Research Project Entail?

This research project will collect both quantitative and qualitative data through regular surveys and interviews, and provide the necessary analysis to objectively determine the impact of active management development on business.

The research will measure the effectiveness of:

  • Group/team organization

  • Structure and delegation
  • Strategic planning
  • Identification of new opportunities
  • Bottom-line business results

Council members must be willing to enroll at least five managers in The Executive Experience in 2010. Then, Council members will be asked to complete quarterly surveys and participate in quarterly interviews with LeaderPoint principals. All data will be objectified when compiled, and all company and personal information will remain completely confidential, unless Council members provide written permission for public release.

Benefits to Council Members, their
Companies and Session Participants

  • Each Council member will receive a customized Executive Summary of the Research Report — presenting overall results and results specific to the company and its management.

  • A LeaderPoint principal will develop and present company-specific business recommendations to each Council member and his/her management team.

  • A LeaderPoint principal (President or CEO) will deliver a one-day interactive presentation — “Leadership in Action” — for the audience and location determined by the Council member (usual cost is $8500 plus expenses…we ask only that travel expenses be reimbursed)

  • Council members will be able to enroll managers in The Executive Experience at a discounted rate.

  • Executive Experience participants receive one-on-one contact from LeaderPoint staff, prior to and for one year after their attendance in a session

  • LeaderPoint will conduct a management and leadership assessment for each session participant, to be discussed with both the participant and their manager — including recommendations for what the manager can do to further encourage development

  • Each Council member and session participant receives a subscription to “Management Matters,” LeaderPoint’s monthly newsletter addressing common myths and misconceptions specific to management and business leadership

  • Each Council member and participant receives “Executive Abstracts,” a monthly communiqué with commentary and links to interesting and instructive management news

  • Each Council member may invite — free of charge — one manager from a not-for-profit organization of their choosing to attend The Executive Expeience

Be part of this national research project — it will change the way business leaders think about management development.

"We have hundreds of anecdotal examples showing the improved business results among companies committed to executive development. This Council — and this study — will enable us to scientifically establish that fact."
